Hi there I have a Benq Joybook 2000eI can get on the net with various Linux distros i.e. Slax... Mepis...etc. easily but not DSL I wish to use the Chinese DSL for my daughter I ran lsmod I can see 8139too but in the second column it says it is not used... mii and crc32 as 8139too ifconfig or ifconfig -a just does nothing the cursor does not even blink and no error messages I can easily close the window I have tried netconfig and set up my static ip I ran dmesg I can see eth0 -- recognizes 8139 chipset so is ifconfig just hanging or what? Kinda of frustratin since I can easily setup Slax or Mepis with no problem but I wish I could get DSL runnin Posted by NettoBr on Nov. 03 2005,11:07
Hello TrekkCheck your dsl.iso on HD for CRC errors and Burn it again. Thats all for today, folks Nettobr Posted by good answer? on Nov. 03 2005,14:33
Hi thanks for the quick reply....However, DSL 1.4..... 1.5 Feather Linux as well as the Chinese DSL and I can not recall the other Knoppix derivatives that I have tried....... Yes I will check out that burned CD .... then I jus remembered that I tried it on an older desktop box PII 300 and not prob at all..... also through spending the last several hours googling have not really turned anything substantial up except that a module is not loaded lsmod notes that 8139too is .... unused modconf under Feather /etc/network/interfaces as well is denied permission yes... that is Feather Vector... ok Slax... ok Mepis... ok Unbuntu.... ok Knoppix Strange tho a B2d variation on Knoppix made it.... I usually do not worry bout such things since I have discovered over the past 6 years or so that one jus has to install enough distros to give them a test drive to determine which suits my fancy at that time But this time I am tryin to get rid of the horrendous lot of spyware on my kid's notebook..... sheeesh Thus CD is fine..... I have no idea what you are saying in that last post, but it may be a limitation of the busybox ifconfig. Have you tried it with gnu-utils installed?

Dear TrekkI have no idea about your problem cause I have two computers with Realtek nics and one is a notebook, and both work perfectly with DSL. I said about cheking crc cause you said something like "mii and crc32 as 8139too". Next time IŽd like to help you more, if I can. DSL is very good choise, for Low end machines and for diags, but unfortunatly not on every machine. Keep Trying, someone else may help you. NettoBr Posted by me too... on Nov. 06 2005,15:07
I have not tried gnu-utils ...since I do not understand what or where this critter is.... no... I have a general idea what gnu-utils might be but not how it works within DSL and to the second reply thanks for taking your time to submit something It is strange that several DSL alike distros fail on that notebook whereas others have no problem at all...... |
