Hello all, I have a compaq nc6000 (HP) with pentium M (centrino), that means the wireless connection is tricky should I have any hope of been able to have network connection from DSL in this laptop? I have tried knoppix 4.0.2 and ubuntu 5.10 live cd and they both recognize an ath0 interface, but DSL doesn't any manual config i could do? thanks a lot Jaime Posted by tempestuous on Nov. 14 2005,06:34
You must have Compaq's own Atheros-based wireless mini-PCI card. I know of other nc6000 owners with Intel PRO/Wireless 2200 mini-PCI cards. The "ath0" interface is created by the MADWiFi ath_pci module, which DSL used to have, but no longer since version2.0. So you can probably use ndiswrapper. There's a setup gui for ndiswrapper in the DSLpanel. Posted by jbar on Nov. 14 2005,22:04
thanks for your reply is there any reference for semi-dummies to go about using ndiwrapper? -- i understand is a tool to use the driver from the windows installed in the hard drive, is that correct? i wonder, why would DSL stop including what seams to be the thing here (the MADWiFi ath_pci module) ? space? bugs? a better solution? thanks! jaime Posted by roberts on Nov. 14 2005,23:48
The MADWiFi ath_pci module(s) have been posted in the release candidate area.Download them and try modprobe ath_pci Posted by Max on Nov. 30 2005,02:25
Roberts,I downloaded the madwifi drivers from the RC area then loaded via mydsl in emelfm. When I try the "modprobe ath_pci" I get back "modprobe: Can't locate module ath_pci" even though I can see the ath_pci.o in lib/modules/2.4.31/net. I even changed into this directory before issuing the modprobe command just in case. If I try doing an "insmod ath_pci" I get a listing of a ton of unresolved symbols. Any other ideas? It was sooo easy to just do an "ifconfig ath0 up" back in 1.5.... Posted by SaidinUnleashed on Nov. 30 2005,05:29
From what I understand, the madwifi driver tarball is not mydsl-load compatible. You will have to unpack it by hand and copy the drivers to where they need to be. -J.P. |
