I've got Windows XP on one machine and DSL on the other. When just one is on the router it works fine. But when I'm trying to use the internet on both machines one of them or both will stop allowing me to use the internet.Windows XP gives an error message that another device on the network is trying to use the same IP address. So this should be an easy fix except I started using Linux four days ago and I'm a bit lost I tried using dchclient (I think it was, I saw it on the forums) with the -I IP command but I can't figure out the syntax. And I don't know what to change the IP address to even if I could get it to work. I also tried pump -win-client-ident -i eth0 command but again I can't figure out the syntax apparently, couldn't get nothing. It's a CompUSA 4 port cable router SKU 313831. No drivers needed with it on the XP side. Any help appreciated. Posted by SaidinUnleashed on Nov. 16 2005,17:28
Make sure that DHCP is enabled in your router and that XP is set to configure automatically.Or, look at the IP address that XP is using and use netcardconfig in the DSL panet to do the same with DSL Posted by Carsyn on Nov. 17 2005,01:36
Well everything's working now. I restarted EVERYTHING and guess something in the chain got fixed.I got DSL running, BOINC running, and both computers sharing a connection. Many thanks for everyone's help along the way. Carsyn |
