i have a post re. this problem on my laptop and have found the answer to correct it. when installing dsl 2.0 at boot type:"linux pci=noacpi". this prevents the kernel freezeups with the wireless card. i've only tested this on my laptop.

Actually it prevents lockup of the kernel on the acpi function..not the pcmcia stuff...

I believe they are two totally different hardware/software modules

i suppose awphuch is probably right, the acpi causes the problem. all i know is that the reinstall with acpi off has my wpc54g linksys card working like a charm.
