OK, i just got my Lucent modem today, installed it and.....I don't know what to do.I have DSL 1.9? (the previous version) 2 modems installed: --Lucent Microelectronics V.92 56K WinModem (rev 03) --U.S. Robotics: Unknown device 2f00 (rev 1) I ran scanmodem on EmelFM and this is what it told me:....... UPDATE=2005_Oct_31 cat: /etc/issue: No such file or directory cat: /etc/issue: No such file or directory grep: /boot/config*: No such file or directory ./scanmodem: line 1: gcc: command not found PCIBUS=000:00:09.0 000:00:08.0 Providing detail for device at 000:00:09.0 with vendor-ID:device-ID ----:---- Class 0780: 11c1:048c Communication controller: Lucent Microelectronics V.92 56K WinModem (rev 03) SubSystem 11c1:044c Lucent Microelectronics: Unknown device 044c Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 66, IRQ 5 -----PCI_IDs----- --CompilerVer- Feature list: Primary Subsystem Distr KernelVer kernel default CPU ./scanmodem test 11c1:048c 11c1:044c debian 2.4.26 2.95.4 none i586 Providing detail for device at 000:00:08.0 with vendor-ID:device-ID ----:---- Class 0780: 16ec:2f00 Communication controller: U.S. Robotics: Unknown device 2f00 (rev 1) SubSystem 16ec:010a U.S. Robotics: Unknown device 010a Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 3 -----PC IDs-------CompileVer- Feature List: Primary Subsystem Distr KernelVer kernel default CPU ./scanmodem test 16ec:2f00 16ec:101a debian 2.4.26 2.95.4 none i586 grep: /etc/issue: No such file or directory grep: /etc/issue: No such file or directory ----end of output---- Plus I know that 2.0 has more support for Lucent modems and I had the 2.0 candidate CD around here, but i can't find it. I'm going to download it later, whenever i have the time, so i was just wondering if the previous version of DSL-1.9 would support my Lucent Modem Posted by lorryballantyne on Dec. 01 2005,03:21
good news, i found the DSL 2.0-RC CD and when i ran it, it said:Found a Lucent Winmodem (its on COM3 in Windows) (during the boot-up screen) ...so I checked the PPP Dialer, and wasn't able to connect to the modem i tried all ttyS# and /modem, no luck Posted by mikshaw on Dec. 01 2005,04:58
Does it not even attempt to dial? All I had to do was set /dev/modem as the device in order for the modem to be used initially, although i had to tweak a couple of things in order for me to connect to the internet after the ISP connection was established. Posted by lorryballantyne on Dec. 01 2005,05:09
nope, doesn't open a connectionand it opens another (Bash window i think) screen and (i should've written down what it said) it says theres some type of error..... Posted by roberts on Dec. 01 2005,05:12
/dev/ttyS14 is the device for Lucent winmodems. But when you see the message "Found Lucent Winmodem" is where I make the link between /dev/ttyS14 and /dev/modem. So choosing /dev/modem should work. Use the control panel system stats and look under modules tab to see if ltserial and ltmodem are loaded. Also look in pci tab to see ltmodem info Posted by lorryballantyne on Dec. 01 2005,07:28
well heres the info:Modules.. > ltserial (Unused) > ltmodem (ltserial) PCI... > Lucent Technologies Modem..... it says the modem is located at ttyS14 i set it to that.....dialed out......NO DIAL-TONE plus i dont think its opening the port, cuz i dont hear that click-sound whenever it dials out in Windows Posted by cbagger01 on Dec. 01 2005,17:57
You could try connecting to your modem with Microcom and typeAT and see if you get an OK back from the modem. Posted by lorryballantyne on Dec. 01 2005,22:42
ok, i tried Microcom and it failed, so i downloaded wvDial...wvdial --> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.53 --> Warning: section [Dialer Defaults] does not exist in wvdial.conf. --> Initializing modem. --> Sending: ATZ ATZ OK --> Modem initialized. --> Configuration does not specify a valid phone number. --> Configuration does not specify a valid login name. --> Configuration does not specify a valid password.
