I am a Linux dufus, but I just installed DSL on an old laptop to play with and hopefully learn.

The HD install went perfectly, a USB mouse works...but I can't seem to make the touchpad work. Any ideas? The laptop is an old Compaq Presario 1800T.

Oh and before anyone is nice enough to help, please keep it in the simplest terms possible.... :p

I have DSL on a Compaq Presario 1610, and was able to get the touchpad working with the XFree86.dsl extension.  If you have a working internet connection on the laptop, it can be downloaded using MyDSL under the System menu.  Otherwise go to < http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub....m >
