Hi....

i'm installing DSL 2.0 on a:
Toshiba 300CDT - Pentium MMX - 133 mhz  CPU- 16 mb ram

the installation process stops at:
Code Sample

modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module fb0
XIO:      fatal IO error 104 (connection reset by peer) on x server ":0.0"
after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining.
dsl@tty1[dsl]$

I started the install with
Code Sample
lowram mem=16M

this is the only way i can get it to install.....

anyone knows about the problem..... ???

hope to get this little thing running - so my 2 cousins at 6 and 9 years can have it - and start getting used to linux  :D

Try:

lowram xsetup

and choose the "xvesa" server when prompted.

Would it be better if Superkyall is just wanting to run the installation script to do that from the command line?
Maybe:
dsl 2 vga=normal mem=16M
I would have thought it would be a lot quicker too to run the install script if X isn't running.

Cheers and beers,
Sarah

How are you booting the box? I seem to remember that I got a similar error message when I was booting with loadlin from dos. Admittedly, this was with Basic Linux, but as they both use Xvesa I think it may apply to DSL as well. If so, the solution is to boot dos without drivers, tsr's etc., i.e. a clean dos boot.

now I've gotten a bit further in the process - but when installing the boot loader (grub) I get an error 17 ???

an when I try with Lilo it boots fine and starts booting up DSL - but at some point I get an error:

<1>Unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual adress 236892b4 printing eip:

and then a lot of numbers and stuff.....
ending up with...

<0>Kernel panic: Aiee, killing interrupt handler!
In interrupt handler - not syncing

don't know if this make sense to but i don't get much out of it ???
