Toshiba Satellite Pro 480CDT and ALSAForum: Laptops Topic: Toshiba Satellite Pro 480CDT and ALSA started by: Wizzz Posted by Wizzz on Jan. 06 2006,18:00
Hello,I've got an HD installation of DSL 2.0 on my prehistoric laptop Toshiba 480CDT (P233MMX, 32MB RAM). Using myDSL utility I've intalled package ALSA and run alsaconf (and/or installation script provided with the packages - I've tried several combinations). The sound card (sb8) was detected properly, but applications freeze when I try to play sound. I've tried several programs: xmms, play and aplay are good examples. All of them give me no error messages, but they don't play the music. The volume is of course unmuted. For example: when I click on "play" button in xmms, the time counter remains on 00:00, and program freezes (but not hangs up) no matter what output plugin I use (ALSA or OSS) Things that I've tried to do: * Checked permissions on /dev/dsp*, /dev/mixer* and so on, * Manually loaded proper modules, * Installed alsa-debs (well... that was my mistake ;) ) I wonder if some of you have the similiar ploblem. Have you found any solutions? I know that hardly anyone uses SB8 soundcard in 2006, but the hardware is OK, it works well with Slackware 10.1 TIA for your answer Posted by doobit on Jan. 06 2006,18:49
I have the 480CDT, but I'm using the opl3 drivers that are built into DSL, not the Alsa package. TO use those drivers, I had to modprobe the driver with the IO and IRQ information from the BIOS. Here is the thread on that:< http://damnsmalllinux.org/cgi-bin....56;st=0 > Posted by Wizzz on Jan. 06 2006,19:55
