I am getting the same error message as in post
< http://damnsmalllinux.org/cgi-bin....ule+fb0 >
but the recommended solution doesn't solve it.

I have done a frugal install to hdc1.
When booting my Thinkpad 560E with Trident graphics, Xvesa doesn't work.  When I boot using the framebuffer, I get

modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module fb0

when I cat /proc/cmdline, it includes (among other things):
vga=788 vga=788 xmodule=fbdev
(yes, twice, but I guess that's my syslinux.cfg)
788 (actually 0x0114) is one of the modes listed by Xvesa -listmodes.

By the way, I also get "undefined mode passed" or similar error early in the boot process.  It then gives me a choice of text sizes, I choose 80x30, and then it continues.

Any ideas on how to get the framebuffer working?

Or better yet, how to get a faster X driver working?  I think framebuffer will be very slow on my P166.

TIA,
