Haven't tried any earlier DSL versions, but with the 2.1 series (candidates and release b) on my new laptop (Compaq Presario V4221TU) about a quarter of the way through the hardware auto-detect it comes up with an error re: module block-major-2, and goes to the next part of the boot process.

Anyone know what this is?  So far I haven't noticed anything not working. ???

This is directly related to acpi
acpi=off will take care of that error message, however, other things may break. YMMV

I have seen the module block major 2 error appear when I am trying to boot DSL from a computer system that has no floppy drive present, like the new Dell Optiplex "Legacy Free" desktop PCs.

cbagger01,

That's truth, my new PC don't have a floppy and I have the same error. What can I do?

Ignore it.

The error message is not a problem.

Yep, my laptop doesn't have a floppy.  I think in my brief googling there was mention of block-major-2 being floppy related.
Haven't had any issues that I know of, it just looks "not nice" when errors pop up on boot.
