Having finally decided to remove Win98 on an old IBM thinkpad 560 with Linux i have hit a bit of a snag.

The 560 does not have a CDrom so i have followed the poormans install from the wiki using the frugal_lite.sh script. All has worked fine upto the point where i boot into x. No matter what options i use at boot i can not see to get an X display, it either craps out with randoms colours all over the screen or it drops to a shell prompt.

Has anyone managed to get DSL running on this, or a similar, laptop and what graphics options did you use?

If it helps the CPU is a P1 100mhz, and the system has 40mb of RAM.

If you can get a shell prompt, and have more than 32MB of working RAM, then you should be able to make this small X work. I would say try starting with fb640x480, or fb800x600 as the first commands at the boot prompt.

I know I have to use framebuffer at 800x600 on my old thinkpad.
Also use the search button and type in thinkpad AND 560 there are alot of posts on that particular model thinkpad. Search all open forums and from the beginning.
