I've gotten a HD install of DSL 2.2, but sound is not working.

I've manually started umix with the -q option, and get the following error:

umix: /dev/mixer: No such device
umix: Failed opening mixer
umix: Failed initialising mixer devices

Any solutions?

Try searching the forums for help.

The search button is at the top right corner of this page.

Search for keyword

380*

and choose ALL FORUMS

and search FROM THE BEGINNING or NEWER

FYI, this is an "OR" based search engine, so if you want to find posts that contain multiple keywords, you need to do it this way:

thinkpad AND sound

or maybe

380* AND sound

Nope, nothing is helping. Still no sound. Apart from the standard 'beep'

Now fixed. Changed grub option from nodma to dma. That was tripping everything up.

Glad to hear that worked for you. That may have solved a bunch of problems people have been having with the IBMs

Has anyone written a guide for DSL on IBM?

You got your Think Pad to work with what module SB or what?  It should tell you in DMESG in system stats. Any special options used beside DMA.

Anyone know how to play a MP3 file from the command prompt.....for us who do not have a work xserver display?

Type in:

mpg321 name_of_file.mp3

at the command prompt.
