Dell C600 won't shut down completelyForum: Laptops Topic: Dell C600 won't shut down completely started by: Neb Posted by Neb on April 02 2006,03:39
Have hd-installed and tried 2.2b and 2.3. Whenever I execute the shutdown command, DSL doesn't quite power down the laptop completely. It shuts off all services, etc., even blanks the screen, but the power remains on. Is there an additional command in a script I need to add to get it to power down completely? Thanks! I suppose no one else has ever seen this?

I guess it's some feature you have to turn off in the bios.I am not sure if the kernel that comes with dsl (2.4.something) actually deals with power management. 2.6.xx surely does. Posted by 300c_pilot on April 10 2006,05:07
I have to turn off my laptop too. I believe there is a kernel option that needs to be included.Smooth Flights... Posted by doobit on April 10 2006,12:59
No, that's an apm or apci option that's usually in the BIOS. If there is no shutdown option, then you may need to upgrade your BIOS although I have made it work even with former Win95 machines.

Does it work with DSL version 2.1b ?This version has better ACPI support because it is a newer kernel version and some of the ACPI bugs have been fixed. Posted by Neb on April 12 2006,17:31
It's a Dell C600, it's not that old. I also installed the latest/last BIOS upgrade available. The 'Power Management' feature was 'enabled' in the BIOS. I just turned that off. I'll reboot/shutdown and see what happens.
