I got DSL installed to the harddrive of a Thinkpad 385ED. So far everything is working well as it detected my Orinoco Gold card as well as the video card. I tried to use XMMS to listen to an MP3 but it complained about the sound card not being installed. I looked up the Thinkpad and found this:

Since the soundcard should be supported by ALSA, I tried to install ALSA via MyDSL, but it complains about a checksum error after downloading. I think tried to do a modprobe using the options that were listed at the above link, and while I don't get any errors I don't get any sound either.

What should be the next thing to try?

Hi,

I originally had the same sound-problem with my Thinkpad 770 x,
but now I got it working  ....

Your Thinkpad should have the same soundcard (cs4232 or so) as mine,
so the procedure should be the same.

BTW: We dont need ALSA

This should give you all the info you need:

If it still stumbles, try changing mpuirq to 9;  I had to do this on my Thinkpad 380.
