I got a notebook 486 with 32 meg memory.

Is it possible to run DSL from a PCMCIA-memory card using a boot disk to find the card?

Im curious.

(If i find out how to get support for a Swedish keyboard (swedish languagesupport with ÅÄÖ and so on) under DSL i will for sure use my PCMCIA-card for this purpose)

Take care!!!

Björn.

Yes! Have a look at:< pcmcia boot disks for Knoppix 3.3 > Then do a frugal_install onto a memory card with your toram and keyboard selection from a more capable machine,  then make your boot floppies and then put the card into your less capable laptop and boot from floppy and should be ready!
I have an old broken laptop that I am playing with this setup right now.

I just recognized a problem that you seem to have. Getting support for a swedish keyboard. I just do the following and it works.

$sudo loadkeys se-latin1
(a message shows that it has been loaded)
$startx

That's all I have to do. Hope this helps you!

Anyone  run DSL from a PCMCIA-memory card without using a boot disk?
I have no floppy drive in my laptop. I copied modules from "knoppix pcmcia floppy"
to my /modules (on miniroot.gz ) and add lines to linuxrc (load modules and start
cardmgr) but it not work. Modules seems to load , but can't mount /dev/hde1 --it's
my cf card.

If you really want to dump the boot disk, you could copy the boot disk files to a DOS/Win95/Win98 C:\drive and use a program like loadlin to start up your DSL system.  Just make sure that you boot to a "Safe Mode Command Prompt" if you are using Windows 95/98.

Good Luck.
