Anyone know a way to get DSL to boot on a Dell 5150 laptop?  The workarounds I've seen posted for Knoppix aren't applicable for DSL.

It is unlikely that you will be able to get dsl to work on your laptop.

It sounds like knoppix was unable to boot properly on a 5150 until a very recent version of knoppix 3.3 was issued (Feb 2004).  Since DSL is based on an older version of knoppix 3.3, it is unlikely to work on your computer.

You could try:

dsl nosmp apic=on

and cross your fingers.

If the newer knoppix is the same kernel version as the older one (2.4.22-xfs), then another option would be to download the newer knoppix 3.3 and create a boot floppy.

Then use this boot floppy in order to boot up dsl. All of the dsl cheatcodes should still work, but you will need to use the prefix "knoppix" instead or "dsl".

For example:

dsl enhance mydsl=hda1

should be replaced with:

knoppix nosmp enhance mydsl=hda1

Good Luck.

I got DSL working on my Dell inspiron 8600 - I had to use the option nopcmcia and it worked properly.
