PC-CARD CD-ROM Boot problems with Toshiba PortegeForum: Laptops Topic: PC-CARD CD-ROM Boot problems with Toshiba Portege started by: LaserGuidedData Posted by LaserGuidedData on June 13 2006,12:33
I'm having difficulties installing dsl on my old Toshiba Portege 3110CT. The initial boot from the external pc-card cd-rom works fine. But after the boot options screen, the cd turns completely dead and the installation program throws me into the 'very limited shell'.I've tried the bootfloppy and the pcmciafloppy with the syslinux version and the plain ISO. The pcmciafloppy doesn't seem to work at all. I get a 'NTLDR is missing...' error with that one. I've also tried the 'expert' installation option and loading modules from a floppy (ie. pcmcia_core.o and i82365.o). But I always end up at the 'very limited shell'. How do I make the installation program continue reading from my pc-card cd-rom after the boot options screen? I found < this pic > of my hardware. Posted by Someone on June 14 2006,07:30
Do you have other os on that comp, which supports your cd drive? If you have then copy the knoppix folder from cd to your hd and boot with bootfloppy. Or if your laptop is able to boot from usb then boot dsl on another computer and install it to usb stick and then boot dsl from usb on your laptop and then install dsl to your laptop. Or you can copy the files from dsl cd and dslx.x.iso to usb and boot with usb bootfloppy. Posted by LaserGuidedData on June 14 2006,08:07
