my gui is kinda all blueish - when i load from the CD in boot: fb800x600 it works fine, but when i changed the lilo.conf file to vga=771 e.g. 800x600 at 256 colors and booted from hd

i get the small pengium

the gui is starts and the screen is all blue and sometimes unable to see the text on the screen, is their a way to add the fb800x600 into a config file so on start up its boots correctly?

i have tried 800x600 at 16 colors and it just doesnt load up

I don't know :)

Try 640x480x256

You may have to play around with different resolutions and color depths until you can find one that will work with your system.  Don't rule out HIGHER color depths as they sometimes will work when lower ones fail.

Also, I am assuming that you are using the xfbdev XServer from the menu?

I am confused by your post. First you state that when you boot from CD with fb800x600 all is fine. Well that is a video mode of 788.

But then you change it down to 256 colors. Yikes! That would look awful. Why did you change it from the 788. You did say that it was fine.

If you are using a current version that 788 mode would had been passed to lilo on the hard drive install so it would already be there. So, if it was 791 then you are using an old version. If so then try putting it to 788. Or better yet might you get a newer version.
