Are you running DSL 0.7 or 0.7.1 ?

Are you running liveCD or HDinstall ?

If a HDinstall.....
Did you place this line in your bootlocal.sh, and reboot?
"modprobe sb io=0x220 irq=5 dma=1"

If a LiveCD,
What output do you see when you type this line in a terminal as root?
(hopefully nothing)

After typing in this line, press "ctrl+alt+bksp" to exit Xserver.
at the command line, type startx to re-enter X

Do you see the sound app in the bottom of your slit?
If so, DSL has found your sound card.
Try turning up the Master Volume by click+drag on round knob.
My IBM 770 has volume knob on the exterior of the laptop
I keep mine on setting 2 or 3 (numbers printed on thumbwheel)

From reading other posts, IBM 770z's work with these settings.
Are there any settings in your bios for sound card settings?
My IBM does not, but my compaq does have choices for
setting io, irq, dma, etc....
