Hi All,

Another post below is related.

I'm putting together a digital picture frame using DSL. I have DSL booting off the floppy to a USB key and am able to backup my samba.dsl files so they are there after a reboot.

I want to use Feh and Unclutter for the slideshow. I want the frame to randomly display pictures from a folder on my Windows box.

I have been able to successfully do all this manually to this point.

I'm at the point now of trying to figure out how to make everything automatic.

Upon boot, I won't have to specify fb800x600 and fbserv, the shared Windows folder will automatically mount and Feh will start randomly displaying pictures.

Guess I'm feeling I need a little encouragement, I've looked at the forums. I just need to know if all of the above is possible with DSL booting from the floppy and loading from the USB key?

I feel I'm half there. Just need to know if I'm headed down a blind alley, or if the above is possible. If it is possible, I'll forge ahead and do more research.

Thanks,

JGAM

Okay, so I tried forging ahead. I have backed up and restore my DSL setup.

I currently am having a problem saving the correct resolution.

My laptop video card is capable of 1024x768 but the screen on supports 800x600. If I manually enter the fb800x600 cheat code at boot, it displays correctly. If I backup DSL, upon reboot it goes back to 1024x768.

I've edited the syslinux.cfg file with vga=789, but it is listed in many places in the file.

It appears that DSL is probing the video card to detect the highest res. I don't want it to do that.

How do I force fb800x600?

Thanks.

Okay, I've been thrashing around at this for a couple more hours. I thought the fb800x600 lines in syslinux.cfg are the cheat codes invoked when fb800x600 is typed in at the boot prompt. So I copied these lines and pasted them into the default section. However it still only boots at 1024x768. If I type fb800x600 it boots at 800x600.

Am I wrong in assuming the fb800x600 lines are executed when fb800x600 is entered at the boot command?

Help?

Thanks.

I haven't booted off floppy->usb before, but I have some questions:

1. What kind of boot floppy is it?
2. Where are you editing that syslinux.cfg?

You could always use a grub boot floppy instead tho.
