Nice,

Good to finally have something worth posting. I have been using Damn Small Linux to refurbish older computers for about a year or so now. Occassionally I run into the same problem with all distros. Certain computers simply have a sound card that cannot be configured. Maybe I have spoken too soon though.

I am currently working on a Gateway Solo 5150(266 mhz 128 ram 7gig hd). I have downloaded and installed the current DSL iso and overall have had managable results. Still this is one of those cases where the sound card does not seem to be supported.

I tried using the information that found in a post by piccolo

"Try sndconfig utility, so:

1. Is a Debian utility then you need enable APT (if was not enable before):
Apps >> Tools >> Enable Apt

2. Open ATerminal and write commands:

dsl@box:~$ sudo su

root@box:/home/dsl# apt-get update

3. After the process is finished, download the Debian utility package.

root@box:/home/dsl# apt-get install sndconfig

4. Execute the utility:

root@box:/home/dsl# sndconfig

The utility automatically do the configuration and play a sound sample."

and managed to get as far as probe results from

Sound Configuration Utility 0.67

error message no pnp or pci sound card detected

when I searched through the list I did find the sound card(ESS 1879) listed I did find several ESS cards and tried them to no avail

Anyone out there got ideas about what I can do to solve this issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
