hi

I have a this laptop < http://www.elmundo.es/su-orde....ba.html > with 133mhz cpu and 40mb of ram. dsl linux works really smooth but cant get the Cirrus Logic CL 6729 pcmcia working.

I have read this is because kernel 2.4 has no support for this pcmcia so I should use pcmcia_cs package but dsl linux doesnt have this package. Also tried to find this package < here > at mydsl extensions but havent found it.

¿¿does anyone know how to add pcmcia_cs package to dsl linux or any oter way to make my pcmcia working? ¿¿maybe kernel 2.6 on dsl linux?? ¿¿any tutorial that explain how to add packages to dsl linux?

Right now I installed debian with 2.6 kernel and blacbox but it doesnt work so smooth as with dsl linux :(

thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Hey Esplinter, Have you figured this issue out....I have a Micron Millennia Transport and have the same pcmcia controller and am also looking for a solution.

-Thanks

Hi there, I have the same problem (wow and even the same notebook ^^ it's called Siemens Scenic Mobile 500) and wonna stay with DSL because IMHO it rocks! I can understand that for the space optimization all internal kernel stuff is prefered but the CL 6729 issue sucks  because DSL is one of the best distri for oldschool computers (tried TomsRBT, Basiclinux, DeLi, before) and is a quite nice ready to run Linux. But I understand that the goals of DSL is to be an busines card Linux->LiveCD+min. space usage.

On another topic I read that you have to recompile the kernel which is IMHO the most difficult/frustating task for Linux newbies (like me, too). It would be very patient if somebody of the DSL professionels would write an short step by step tutorial (commands and when to reboot, what problems might occure would enough) :)

There's been some threads about compiling modules (not necessarily the whole kernel) floating around recently.

The first thing suggested is to check whether it's already precompiled somewhere, such as the Knoppix 3.4 CD.

If it isn't, then you can check whether
- you just need to compile the modules.  There's a couple threads on this.
- you need to recompile the kernel (and add modules). If in this case, the most recent thread would be Juanito's thread about cpufreq modules in the Laptop section.

Might somebody tell me what to do? I guess I had to recompile the kernel without internal PCMCIA support otherwise the pcmcia_core module wouldn't work fine? Difficult, difficult

See the Solo 2200 post in Laptops. It describes how to fix the 6729 issue.
