Well, my primary notebook died, and I have an IBM Thinkpad 560Z that I wanted to use. The only problem is I haven't found a proper replacement harddrive for it. I was intending to use a PCMCIA to CF (Compact Flash) adapter and a 128MB CF card that I have lying around the house, but I can't figure out how to install DSL to it. Mind you, the notebook does not have a CDROM drive or a Floppy drive - I have a cardreader for a desktop that I have. Is this possible, or should I get myself a machine with all that I am missing? Much Obliged for th help! Posted by roberts on Oct. 28 2006,18:08
I have used the ideCF adapters to frugal install DSL to CF, as an ordinary hard drive, hda. Then placed the ideCF into a laptop as a replacement hard drive. Since DSL autodetects upon boot no problems.

Thanks for the tip. Eager to use this machine again - it isn't big on power (300Mhz PII, 64MB RAM) but it isn't big on size or weight either. It's about an inch thick and the size of a sheet of paper.....
