Hello,

I use DSL 2.4, but when switching in graphic mode, I got only some big pixels. I tried some vga parameters, but nothing helps.

More informations about my hardware:
IBM ThinkPad 760XD
Pentium MMX 166MHz
Memory 104 MB
XGA Display 1024x768, 65536 colors
Trident CYBER9385 / 64 bit SVGA accelerator / 2 MB

What can I do?
Any help is appreciate.

Harald

You could try different video modes by running xsetup.sh

Check the vga boot code in the WIKI:

I have the same laptop but i'm running DSL 3.0.1 and mine only has 32megs of ram. After much searching on the web I found two sites < here > and < here >

The 2nd link says that the Trident Cyber video card isn't supported in XFree86 4.x but that it is in 3.3.x version. So I am currently in the process of trying to figure out how to get that version installed.

Using those sites I was able to get zgv working somewhat but the problem is that I don't know how or can't get the resolution to change. And the problem with that laptop is that if you use a resolution other then its native 1024x768 it will just use less of the screen instead of streaching the picture out.

If somebody knows an answer to either of these it would be a great help. Also sorry, i'm not trying to steal your thread, we are just both looking for the same thing :)

Andrewb,

Anytime I try to boot and supply any kind of frame buffering or vga modes it always give me an error and tells me i specifed an unknown mode and then asks me to either scan or input one. If i choose input it shows a list of text modes 80x22, etc.

Hello rgoble,

I am happy, that I am not alone. Perhaps together, we will find a solution. But I am a Linux beginner.

I understand that we have to downgrade X to XFree86 3.3.6. How is this possible?

Thats the part i'm working on figuring out now. Supposdly somebody has already made a DSL extension with the XFree86 3.3.6 version but I haven't been able to find it yet. If nothing else I may try and figure out how to do it myself. Hopefully that does not require me to build X, because that would not be fun on a 166mhz system.
