Hi everybody,

I was given an old IBM ThinkPad 600 with a slow Pentium II (Deschutes) processor and 64MBs of RAM only.  The thing has been badly treated, it barely works, but it still works.

I immediately tried to install DSL on it but right upon the first seconds of the boot I get this weird error "isolinux error 0142328b".  Does anyone have an idea of what this means and what I can do about it, if anything.

I would also add that this laptop blocked on bootup when I tried to install (the excellent) "Frenzy" FreeBSD live-CD, but that an older derivative of Knoppix called Knoppix-STD (security tools distribution worked).  However, DSL is the only distro I want to install on this machine so any advice/help/pointers would really help.

Thanks,

VS

If you downloaded and burned the DSL cd correctly (md5sum, etc.) maybe you need to use the syslinux bootloader.

Hi,

I tried several CDs from different sources so I am quite sure the CDs are fine.  What do you mean that I should use the syslinux bootloader?

The default bootloader for the cd isolinux.  Syslinux is more compatible with older systems, and used for usb keys, etc.  You can download the iso if you want.

ok, I am on the obtuse side and I still don't get it. are you saying that I can download DSL with the syslinux bootloader somewhere (if yes, where?) or should I get syslinux somewhere (if yes, where?) and somehow integrate it into DSL (if yes, how?).

Sorry about those bozo questions, but all this is Chinese for me.

Many thanks in advance,

VS

Go to one of the download sites and get dsl-3.0.1-syslinux.iso.
