DSL doesn't see PCMIA Ethernet CardForum: Laptops Topic: DSL doesn't see PCMIA Ethernet Card started by: whitechocolate Posted by whitechocolate on Jan. 10 2007,23:10
got a question about network cards and DSL. i have a Xircom standard 10/100 Ethernet Notebook Card in an old laptop that i wish to put DSL on. however, i wanna be sure i can access the web using DSL in the future. right now i'm booting off a live CD. when linux is booting, it sounds 2 beeps and notes there is in fact an ethernet card. my question is how do i connect to the internet? i have an ethernet cable connected to a modem, which is connected to a cable outlet. will DSL let me do that, or do i need something more propietary. the lights are red on the ethernet card, by the way, and the modem indicates there is pc activivity on the other end. I used Net configuration from the main menu and clicked cardconfig or whatever, and when asked for DHCP said yes and no (two diff times) but still no connection.any ideas,? matt. |
