What sort of touchpad do you have - ALPS, Synaptics or?

My ALPS touchpad works using XFRee86.unc and I remember Roberts menioned his worked using xsetup.sh

If it is an ALPS touchpad you should try Juanito's synaptics_alps module (in the modules section of the repo).  I was able to get the touchpad on my friend's newish Sony Vaio working with that (Thanks Juanito!).  First you need to have XFree86 working to use that though.

Question: why can't you use a usb mouse (if I understood correctly)?  At least use that while you're getting your touchpad working ..

hm ich have a usb mouse that works :)
but this laptop got only 1 usb and i need this for the wlan stick
now i downloaded this XFree86 and burned it from my other pc on cd
but my DSL cant find the cd and now i cant install it -.-
i love DSL its fast ant easy but all i need is this touchpad >_<

A quote from Roberts in another post:

I use an Alps Touchpad and also the touchpad in my Sharp MM10 with the standard tiny X. Usually ps2 and choose 2 button option in xsetup. Also have in working in an AMS Tech 233 with built in touchpad two button mouse

Its weird, I have only had three different laptops with touchpads and all have worked fine with the tinyX server.

I do use xsetup.sh and skip past usb mouse and ps/2 mouse navigate to serial ports, select ps2, then on the buttons screen select 2 or 3 as appropriate.

At the moment, only have the Sharp MM10, and its .xserverrc displays

exec /usr/bin/X11/Xvesa -2button -mouse /dev/psaux -screen 1024x768 -shadow -nolisten tcp -I &>/dev/null

I also have an old ALPS serial touchpad and it works as well when the appropriate serial port is selected in xsetup.sh. I use this on some laptops that have the tiny button embedded in the keyboard.

On my HP dv4000 laptop, no problems with the touchpas and TinyX or XFree86 - similar setup to Roberts and it just works.

But on my friend's Vaio, which needed XFree86 for nvidia, no touchpad seemed possible without Juanito's synaptics_alps module.  Then touchpad worked, with usb mouse at the same time if needed.

BUT DSL-N is to slow....
