My laptop is a Gateway Solo 2500 with an nma2 NeoMagic soundcard. DSL works so beautifully on the laptop, except there's no sound.  :(
Sndconfig won't complete without crashing either.  ???
I have used newer versions of DSL, but the one I actually have on physical cd (not just .iso) is 0.6.3. So if a newer version already supports my soundcard, please let me know.  :)
Assuming they don't yet, if support for the nma2 were included in one of the upcoming versions of DSL, it would give me a whole new reason for living.  :D  Thanx.

Perhaps downloading 0.8.2 and trying it might result in a good suprise

Tried 0.8.2. Love it. It works beautifully on my desktop. Didn't try "configuring" soundcard on laptop with it yet, but it didn't load up automatically either. Will try and fuss with it more tomorrow. Thanx.

From 0.6.3 to 0.8.2 .... Woah !
You've got a LOT of new toys to play with !!

and stay away from the sndconfig app.. It's bunk ..
We'll figure out that sound chipset another way..

Enjoy !

try sudo modprobe sb (if not logged in as root)

If it works then add modprobe sb to your /etc/rc5.d/S99localboot file and it will load at every boot
