In fluxbox when looking at the themes there aren't any gradients, just 2 or 3 different colours in blocky triangle/diamond shapes.
In emelfm a lot of the controls appear as red sometimes pink/purple (maybe it is inverse video?).
I've even had the desktop turn bright blue just be opening rxvt.
I'm currently using the Zetygray style as the grays seem to be mostly working.

I have tried xvesa 8bpp 640x480, 16bpp 800x600 and 16, 24 and 32 bpp colour depths at 1024x768.
After exiting fluxbox, then running xsetup.sh and choosing xfbdev modprobe says it can't find module fb0. XIO says connection reset by peer ":0.0". Choosing xvesa also shows errors saying insmod/init_module can't find apm.o and insmod/insmod char-major-10-134 failed.

Try 16bpp at 640x480

Perhaps your video driver isnt detected or working and it is defaulting to vga mode...which will make it look like that...

Please provide more information about your rig please

The system is a Dell Inspiron 510m with a 15" XGA screen and Intel 855GM graphics chip. I think the max res is 1024x768.

When I choose Xfbdev in xsetup.sh it doesn't ask me for a resolution or bit depth. When I boot it starts in xvesa 1024x768x32 automatically (no restore kernel parameter either).

Xvesa 640x480x16 seems to work fine so I'll stick with that for now.

Another option for you is to do this:

Open an xterminal and type:

scite .xserverrc

and add the following to the command line of text:

-swaprgb

Make sure that it is entered before the "I" switch in the command line.

Also, you could install the full xwindow system if you are a hard drive user.  Search the forums for more details.

I have a Dell 510m laptop with SXGA+ screen and intel 855GME intel graphics chipset.

Could someone tell me how to install Alan Pourier's  < 855resolution > on a USB drive version of DSL?

I am hoping it will cure the above problem wrt low video resolution.

Thank you.
