I am a noob and am experiencing problems with the display of my old laptop.  In text mode, I cannot see all of the text.  The display is not configured properly I guess, because I reconfigured x properly so that I can now see the whole screen in Icewm (although I could not originally).  How can I fix text mode to a viewable resolution.  I have DSL 0.83 installed to the HD and had the same problem with the full version of Knoppix.  Thanks.

Essentially. It is an Armada with a Chips and Technologies video card in it.  Processor is about 166 mhz.  Using Microsoft wireless card.

Again...please give model numbers and what not...a microsoft wireless card leaves a very broad margin for error....let me show you how

I have a Compaq LTE 5300 with docking station
133Mhz pentium 32Meg ram 2.1gig HD
The ethernet shows to be a ne2000 capable nic so I turned it on by using modprobe ne irq=11 io=0x320
the soundcard is a sound blaster derivative so i used modprobe sb
the wireless pcmcia card is a linksys WPC11 ver.3 autodetected as a hermes

Ok.  It is:
Compaq Armada 1590DMT laptop
166 mhz 82 MB RAm  2.1 GB HD
Microsoft MN-520 wireless card
Floppy drive
Chips & Technologies video
ESS audiodrive 1878

Wireless is working fine, as is screen resolution in IceWM.  The display in text mode and sound card are not working.

Did that help at all
Remember all commands have to be issued as root or sudo

I'm sorry.  Did what help at all?  I have edited and checked out many files, but I do not know where to look.  I know about su and sudo and root.  However, what file or files contain the boot configuration parameters.  I would like to change the boot screen resolution in text mode.  Also, how do I stop DSL from booting to X?

Ok.  I fixed the text mode display issue through editing lilo.conf.  When I try to configure the ESS Audiodrive 1878 through soundcardconfig, I get a segmentation fault error every time.  Also, how do I stop x from loading by default when I boot?  Thanks.
