hi...

i've managed to do a HD net install of the latest DSL on my old 486 Dell Latitude XP... it all works well and even goes into X fairly fast BUT the builtin trackball just doesn't work correctly..

It's described as /dev/psaux which I'm sure is right.. It worked in Debian Woody sometime ago..

It does seem to respond in DSL but goes over to the far right of the screen and cannot be moved correctly... the buttons seem to work though..

I've tried other settings in xsetup.sh but these don't seem to recognise the trackball at all.

If I could get this sorted it's be great... I'm looking forward to resurrecting this old laptop!

thanks

adrian

The problem is the trackball mouse and the kdrive servers.

I had the same problem with an earlier MS Mouse.

Your solutions are:

1) Install gpm and set it up in "repeater more".

2) Install XFree86 and take a performance hit.

3) Buy and use an external mouse.

Or, if you are a programmer who knows something about mouse drivers:

4) Download the TinyX / KDrive / Freedesktop.org Xserver source code and try to make the thing work with your mouse.

Good Luck.
