Hi!I have an old Laptop with 133MhZ and 16 MB RAM. It has an CD Drive and Floppy Drive I can use only one a one time Earlier I used Win95 on it, now I wanted to try DSL I burned the iso with nero as an image on a cd, but the Laptop does not boot from it Really dont know why, in Bios CD Drive is selected... Win95 does boot from CD! But DSL not... But I can boot also from a Floppy , that works, in this way I already installed another Linux distri on this Laptop some time ago (have deleted it now) What can I do? Do you need more informations about the Laptop? Pls help Posted by cbagger01 on April 21 2005,03:27

It could be a problem with the CD - have you tried it on other PCs?Are you using the standard or syslinux version? - according to the following thread, you probably should use syslinux: < http://damnsmalllinux.org/cgi-bin....solinux > Posted by AwPhuch on April 21 2005,16:20
You are more than likely going to have to copy the KNOPPIX dir to your HD and use a boot floppy to initate the startBrian AwPhuch Posted by daminator on April 21 2005,16:49

I have a similar problem on one of my notebooks:It boots from the DSL CD and stopps with a penguin in the top left corner and a blinking cursor The same CD works fine in other PCs and this notebooks boots perfectly from an original Knoppix CD but not with DSL. What could be the problem? regards, Christian Posted by sarge on May 11 2005,08:32
thanks for the suggestion to use the syslinux version!I was having the same problem...CD wouldn't boot at all. I grabbed syslinux, burned it and it works perfectly. btw: I am using a Samsung SenS 650 notebook. pentium 233 MMX 64mb ram Had absolutely no trouble at all configuring for shared internet via LAN, and this poor old beast runs all the games/apps/etc extremely fast, even when running strictly from the CD. Think I'm gonna try a dual-boot setup with win98 and see how that goes. Thanks a million, you guys!!! |
