I would like to try installing on a laptop without a hard drive. I see this in the store.

IDE/Compact Flash 2.5 inch 44 pin connector

In the picture I see the connector at the rear is rows of male pins. Now most of the hardrives I am familiar with also have rows of pins in the rear. Is there some type of adapter I need to get for these to mate? I have not done a lot of hardware work in a couple of years so I am just trying to be sure before I jump in.

I run two laptops this way. One a very old AMS Tech 233Mhz 32MB machine. It had no hard drive. I just dropped in a 256MB CF with the 44pin adaptor. Works great. I also did the same of a Sony Vaio. Seems to make the batteries last longer and no hard drive to spin. You just have to be aware that taking apart laptops to get to their hard drive can be a bit involved and those oh so small screws. Need good eyesight.

spotslayer,

The 2.5" laptop HDDs have a 44 pin sokcet on the back of them, so they will fit the adapter no problems. I hope to do the same to my laptop myself soon.

Thanks guys!

Just FYI

I heard on a recent podcast that by the end of the year Samsung will have 16g flash memory out. That could be interesting.
