Just thought I'd try install the appropriate modules for the Lucent 56k modem in my IBM Thinkpad 240.

I looked here: < ltmodem >

It lists debian packages available. I took the apt-get route, narrowing down the kernel version to the one I think was correct 2.4.26.......

When I tried apt-getting the drivers, the main error was along the lines of:

"Drivers compiled using gcc version 3
Kernel compiled using gcc version 2

For sake of crash prevention
Exiting"

Is there a way to get around this or is there an easier route to get the modem working ???

I'll admit I'd probably never use the modem, but you never know :;):

I gave up.......and bought a PCMCIA modem listed safe at linmodems.org. Found it new for $10 on e-bay....screw the winmodems...
