Hello People,I´m new to DSL and I want to understand some boot Options. Today I´m using TORAM to have my cdrom drive available for other use. But my Satellite 2180CDT has only 192Mb. But I´d like to use FROMHD=/dev/hda5 and it doesnt work, but first i made a tohd=/dev/hda5 Thanks from Brazil, NettoBr Posted by adssse on Oct. 15 2005,01:05
Did you type 'dsl' in front of them? Like 'dsl fromhd=/dev/hda5'The wiki will give you more details on these boot options. < http://damnsmalllinux.org/wiki/index.php/Cheat_Codes > Posted by NettoBr on Oct. 16 2005,02:20
Hello Adssse,Let me be more specific. First I type 'dsl vga=789 tohd=/dev/hda5' cause I need 800x600 Then DSL boots, i can use it, and than I reboot, Then I type 'dsl vga=789 formhd=/dev/hda5' Boot Starts, it try to recognize USBs (I have no one) and a message is written everytime:
First, I wonder if i´m using tohd an fromhd in the wright way Second, does it work for you? Thanks, NettoBr Posted by mikshaw on Oct. 16 2005,02:42
As far as I can tell you're using it the right way, as long as "formhd" is a typo that you made only in this thread.Could it be a problem with the filesystem on hda5? Is it a linux filesystem with 50mb free? Posted by NettoBr on Oct. 16 2005,15:29
Hello People,Problem Solved! There is another option not documented by DSL, bootfrom=/dev/hdax/image.iso I'm using it now. I've downloaded Knoppix and its there is a more clear explanation there. More, I'm using DSL 2.0rc1.... Thanks for updated firefox 1.0.6 and PCMCIA Tolls in DSL Panel Thanks from Brazil, NettoBr Posted by mangatono on Oct. 30 2005,10:34
I have cleared the problem. for another user, you mus copy to some other partition knoppix/knoppix from cd, and fromhd command works.
