Hi everyone,I'm having the following prob: I installed DSL 1.5 on a Toshiba Satellite 4000CDT with the Syslinux ISO and the right-click HD Install script. Everything works fine (even got sound with the help of this forum) except that I can't seem to use mydsl-load to install additional packages. I use fbdev with vga=788. The display is supposed to be able to show 16 mio colors. But when I issue mydsl-load jre1_5_0.tar.gz for example it says Cannot allocate color I'm stuck here. Anyone knows what I'm doing wrong? I see the same errors on my screen every time I shut down or leave X, or mount a .uci. I don't have any trouble with extensions, though. Something to note about dsl extensions: not all of them create menu entries to click on. I believe your example is one of them- since it is there to enable program functions the user doesn't need to run it directly. Because of this it's hard to tell if some packages are loaded properly.

The 'cannot allocate color' error has been discussed, and fixed in 2.0rc1 .. To effect repair in 1.5, add the line ShadowColor: #000000 under the line " FontColor: #FFFFF" in your ~/.xtdesktop/xtdeskrc file. This will fix the error in xtdesk, but only affects xtdesk itself. It does not have any bearing on your other errors. Other than the feedback you see with the "cannot allocate color" output, this 'bug' has no effect on the rest of the system at all. Ignore it, and look elsewhere, for issues regarding extensions.. As for java, the only thing you should see different is a new directory called /opt/jre1_5_0 , which contains your java environment. There is nothing to " do " , or " run " , unless you require a java console.. The usual effect is to add java functions to Firefox. OPEN Firefox, goto yahoogames , open text-twist, or something similar, and see if it runs.. You should see some java logo, followed by the game itself. 73 ke4nt |
