I'm in a quandry here. I have an older Toshiba 2535CDS 300 mhz laptop with 98megs of memory (at the moment) and a QSI CD-RW/DVD drive. I'm trying to get it to work with Xine. I can find a listing for dvd in the /dev/ folder but when you click on it nothing happens. I've tried using MAKEDEV but I keep getting an error message about it not knowing how to make dvd. I've added a line in fstab about /dev/dvd but that doesn't seem to work either.

Can anyone help???

When you go to /dev what does "ls -l dvd" (no quotes) report?  If it reports a link to /dev/dvd0 do an ls -l of dvd0 to see what that reports.  Also what does ls -l cdrom produce?  Since they are the same device they should eventually end up at the same link (probably /dev/scd0).

Brian,

Thanks for the help! It did come up as /scd0. I have managed to get video but of course no sound and too many dropped frames. I guess those will be my next projects to figure out.

Thanks again!
