Hi,
I'm running dsl 0.7.1 and I've not updated too much on it before.  Just wondering if "apt-get dist-upgrade" will break anything.  Is this how most people update their dsl's?  Will it bring me up to 0.9.2 distro exactly (or maybe update my installed components to the 0.9.2 versions but any new additions have to manually added perhaps?).

Yes it will break stuff.  Don't do it unless you enjoy pain.

ok thanks!  is a reinstall the easiest way to update dsl then?  Only problem is that I have to also re-customise it (I've got thttp and my web pages on it for example),

You should look into a "poorman's" , or "Frugal"  type install to your hard drive.

Then upgrading is usually as simple as copying over ONE file,
the compressed DSL image file .. ( /KNOPPIX/knoppix )

All your settings, changes, additions, and modifications can be placed
in a separate partition, or added to your backup,
and carry over to the new version.

If you have enough ram, you can run the entire filesystem in ramspace.

Plus, all your boot options are available to choose, or not to choose,
each time you bootup..

Unfortunately, the version you are currently running, 0.7.1,
is not upgrade compatible with any of the versions from 0.7.3 and up.
Both the base .iso, and the extensions, have undergone major changes
since the release of 0.7.1

So, backup your webpages and thttpd first, then start anew..
