Apt-Get in DSL seems to have a lot of potential for screwing up the system and for not working. Once, I tried to upgrade all of the existing parts. Even though I said no to any upgrade that overwrites the user's changes, it still stopped it from working. Also, updating xPDF doesn't seem to work, as libpaper1 doesn't config, as seen in that other topic.

Is there any reason that DSL doesn't work well with the HUGE Debian apt repository? Also, I use Synaptic, and could that cause extra problems?

Because DSL is not Debian. We are just (loosely) Debian based, meaning that our kernel and many of our apps are "broken or incomplete" by apt's standard.

Basicly, apt-get dist upgrade will destroy your DSL install. If you want a DSL-like Debian install, grab the business card netinst Debian CD, and go to town installing all the apps. You should get relatively close, but it will be larger, because of all the newer apps and their code bloat.

Also, XPDF is the latest version, last I checked.
