update & locatedb did not work in 0.7.3

Are you writing about "updatedb" and "locate" ?
( your post title was misleading - you have update and locatedb )

As of today, both are working in 0.7.3...

Make sure you download the latest gnu-utils.dsl, dated 7/30/2004
Both are working when this file is added to your DSL build.

You can use 'where'.

Not sure what "where" is....same thing as "whereis"? If so, I think that works only for programs.
