I have downloaded dsl-2.2RC1.iso and burned a CD.

when I start this CD on my ASUS A8N SLI (ATHLON 64 3500+) I can see the start process up to a point where the LCD-monitor suddenly turns blank - and stays blank.

the last line I can read is the second appearance of :
XAUTH : creating....    (it disappears too fast)

different boot options did not help, so I tried a different computer (MSI ATHLON 3000+) and it works. I made a USB-Pen with that computer and tried it on my other machine, with the same result as mentioned above.

Does anyone have an idee how to solve this problem ?

Thank You - Gerhard

Don't use that first computer.
Linux has specific hardware requirements. Some versions work on some computers, and others work on other computers. Windows won't work on power PC or Sparc, for example, and until recently MacOS wouldn't work on x86 machines. There are 64bit versions of Linux made for Athlon 64 CPUs. DSL is not one of them.
I also do not understand why you used an RC1 version which is for testing, instead of the stable version. It's entirely possible that the stable release will work on your computer, or maybe 2.1b would work because it has a different kernel.

I have been able to run DSL on my AMD Opteron dual CPU machine at work. That means it could work on your 64 bit machine. What I'm saying is, you can't necessarily expect it to because it wasn't made for that purpose.

thank You for the fast reply.

on my machine - the ATHLON 64 - I have running the 32-bit version of SUSE 10, so I thought DSL might work. I will try the other release. Maybe there is any boot-option which I can try ?

Thanks

It's possible that the acpi function is throwing things off. Try booting with the dsl noacpi no apm cheat codes.

Try the following:

at the BOOT? prompt

type "dsl xsetup"  (without quotes)

At the window that asks to choose between xvesa and xfbdev choose xfbdev.

Answer the next question about mouse an keyboard acccordeing to your system.

Hope this helps?
