I'm running DSL off the CD on my parents' Gateway 400mhz Celeron w/ 64MB and 8MB shared video while sitting around doing laundry.

It's not that big of a deal, but it seems that Firebird causes X to crash whenever I encounter a site that uses Flash. I did the standard install via the Fluxbox menu.

Just a suggestion, but you may want to make installing the Flash plugin an separate option.

Only reason I'm using Firebird instead of Dillo is that slashdot doesn't render correctly on the latter. Otherwise, DSL kicks ass! I'm about to run to Circuit City and grab some 50MB CDs to stick in my wallet.

Have you tried Links out for that matter? The hacked Links that comes w/ DSL is much better than Dillo. BtW, I dunno why John doesn't strip Dillo out and add something else better, like QTParted & PartImage !!!  >;-)

Gaim or Kopete is another excellent option  :D

er.. not that it solves your problem but, I think that it is becuase firebird+flash uses up alot of ram, and with the whole thing running out of ram, when you run out, X crashes...

Funny! In my case, Linux chooses a random program and kill it when I'm outta memory!!!  ???

Have you tried increasing your swap size?  Maybe a larger swap file will prevent the crashes.

As for getting rid of Dillo, it takes up very little space ~360k so removing it does not help you very much when it comes to adding new apps.
