I'm not entirely sure, since I've never tried it (other forum members, feel free to correct me). This is what I would do.
I would:
1) Format the HDD with cfdisk through dsl as ext2 (or one ext2 and one with the original formating (if you want to hold onto the music capabilities of the mp3 player)(if you're not sure, search the forums)
2) Boot a computer with a dsl livecd, and find what your mp3 player drive is called (Maybe sda1, not sure) and install (frugal) to the drive.
3) Make sure the computer you're booting from the mp3p is compatible with USB booting, plug in, and go from there.
Those are my thoughts on the matter.
