Hi guys,

I've heard of people installing portable operating systems on their mp3 players such as the iPod. I have a Creative Zen Touch 20GB mp3 player and would like to install DSL into a specified directory on the player so I could boot from it similarly to that of a USB drive. I'm totally new at all of this and couldn't find anything similar from searching. My computer runs Windows XP. I would like to be able to download DSL and then install it onto the player via some sort of installation file. I guess I could also download the CD image and burn it and then install, but the latter sounds easier.

Does anyone know of any manuals or tutorials on how to do this? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm not entirely sure, since I've never tried it (other forum members, feel free to correct me). This is what I would do.

I would:

1) Format the HDD with cfdisk through dsl as ext2 (or one ext2 and one with the original formating (if you want to hold onto the music capabilities of the mp3 player)(if you're not sure, search the forums)

2) Boot a computer with a dsl livecd, and find what your mp3 player drive is called (Maybe sda1, not sure) and install (frugal) to the drive.

3) Make sure the computer you're booting from the mp3p is compatible with USB booting, plug in, and go from there.

Those are my thoughts on the matter.

I don't have DSL installed anywhere yet, and it seems that this "cfdisk" is a linux only program. Should I partition my hard disk and install DSL or some other version of linux on as a secondary OS and then do this whole process through linux? (I only have Windows on my computer right now)

danger...danger
you can distroy your ipod if is not compatible the filesystem with the normal usb boot with pendrive, is in fat 16
first go to search window and type "ipod" from the begining
second make a copy of filesystem type and geometry of your ipod...

good loock i only used a normal pendrive ...
