When I was looking for a pcmcia card for my laptop, I first looked at what was supported in DSL. $ ls -la /lib/modules/2.4.20-xfs/kernel/drivers/net/wireless What was there is: airo, hermes, and orinoco Since I refuse to install to hard drive, I got a card that I KNEW was going to be supported!
For linksys you might check out: http://www.network-drivers.com/drivers/49/49228.htm or google search for linux-wlan-ng and try installing that.
