Hello!
I'm a long time Unix user. My recent interest in DSL came from a tiredness of slow user interface... I decided to try to use DSL, not as a toy, but as a production Java dev platform.

This forced me to remaster DSL to tune it to my need (the default 50mb system don't have Java JDK, even as an extension).

I was surprised by the number of available extensions and the ease of remastering, based on available informations.

I summarized my remastering experience in a small guide available on my website:
http://dimsboiv.uqac.ca/linux_dsl.html

The only important missing tool is a basic UML diagramming tool. The old dia version available as an extension do not work with DSL 4.0. I wasn't able to install a newer one on my own.

Who can help me on this point?

Anyway I'm using this almost complete system through a 80mm CD and a USB key for my home and for the moment, I'm pretty satisfied. It's lightning fast and powerful enough to be used as a Java dev platform (I develop Swing standalone applications). Time will say if it's reliable enough.

Thank you to the DSL team for their good work!
S. Boivin, Ph.D.

The current dia extension looks it will (eventually) crash ... X at the very least (I used ctrl alt backspace).  When loading dia-normal (I think that's what you're supposed to run) X-warnings will pop up and multiply like any malicious adware.  Granted, this is an old extension, so it can be hard to verify which works on which version, etc.

You can request a specfic mydsl extension if you wish.  Did you try installing one from apt?
