My very old monitor and DSL linux dont get along.
If I let it boot with no changes I get a screen with 4 side by side screens?
If I pick 800x600  I get a screen only 2 inches high?
I need to put a modeline in how do I do that?
These work with a different Linux.

modeline
"800x600" 36.00 800 824 896 1016 600 601 603 625 +hsync +vsync
Horiz = 35.86khz
Vert = 57.37hz

or

modeline
"1024x768" 44.9 1024 1048 1208 1264 768 776 784 817 interlace
Horiz =35.5khz
Vert = 87hz

Did you read the help screen when you hit F2 before it booted?

Out of all the options with F2 F3 what do I have to use?
I went to option
DSL VGA=769
because thats the only option that works, 771, 773, 787,790 dont give a usuable screen., 769 is only 640x480 which I am using now but I know the monitor can do up to 1024x768 interlaced with modeline above so how do I get that?

Same thing only 640x480 works.
This monitor which is built in like avatar shows has very low HORIZ and VERT ranges. It also cant be talked to like newer monitors which tell all for what they can do.
So the only way with other LINUX is with a XORG modeline like above or 1 LINUX when it cant talk to monitor will let me fill in HORIZ and VERT ranges so it works also.
