This is the tightest OS.
Great job!

I am running and exploreing this OS right now, and love it.
It reconized my dual P3's, sound and used one of my existing swap partitions with out a single wimper. NICE!

Just a few questions.

1. Can I add/subtract apps to the CD iso?

-Put it on a larger medium(250, 700MB cdr, ext...)

If so, how and what are my limitaions?

2. Saving the configureation is a little hairy, How exactaly dose DSL save your configs?

-On a floppy? Where?

3. If you have DSL on a 700MB cdr with Multisession, can the os write to the same disk?

-add/save data to its running disk?

Thanks and Please keep up with this tight OS :)

Drawbacks:
a)Its Linux (the ususal hardware issues, i.e does my insert_hardware_item_here make linux drivers)
b)I can take some time to get a reply on this forum (days even)
c)There is not a FAQ other than the one that starts when it boots up and I find that to be lacking.
d) If you dont have a working internet connection under it getting new software is a pain in the...
e)User friendlyness is rather umm, well lets just say if you have a problem it will take some time to fix it either by posting here and wating for a reply of googling for a solution.

Biggest issue is a.

1.  Yes you can add/subtract applications to the CD iso using a process called "remastering".  Unfortunately it can be a difficult process if you don't know what you are doing and the DSL 0.8.0 version needs a different method to remaster.

Fortunately, you can add any myDSL extension programs to a new CD-R without much trouble.  Try searching the forum for keywords like "WINSISO" or "optional"  and choose "search all forums" and "search from the begginning or newer".

2.  DSL saves your custom chosen configuration files into a compressed tar archive file (kinda like a "*.zip" file in MSWindows) and can automatically restore it from a floppy drive, a USB flash drive, or a hard drive (or even a CD but it is read-only) on bootup.  Try reading the howtos and other documents on the DSL website and on the DSL CDROM disk.  Also, you can search the forum on "filetool.lst" for some additional information.
FYI, Linux (including DSL) can not easily write to a Windows NT/2000/XP natively formatted hard drive type called "NTFS", but it can read them without any problems. It can read and write to MSDOS/Win95/98/ME formatted partition types called "FAT", "FAT16" or "FAT32".

3. Yes, you can do this but it is not easily supported by built-in backup/restore scripts. Expect to spend some time fiddling around with the CD burning programs that are available and also fiddling around with the DSL backup/restore process. Somebody has been trying to do this already. Maybe you can find it by searching for "multisession" but I am not sure.
