Just been trying "hdparm -Y" on a Sony VAIO and managed
to squeeze 1 hour of use out of a very very tired battery that
would provide say just 10 - 15 mins on other operating
systems with the hard disk going.

I'm running toram noswap (to stop the pick up of an
existing swap partition) but didn't succeed in getting the
hard disk to sleep; hdparm -C reports the disk at "standby"
despite the sleep request being issued.

Are other folk doing better than this??
