DSL (0.7.3) default boot fails on my K7S5A Pro with the amusing message, just after unzipping the boot kernel, "error: only one processor found." Which is quite right, of course. LOL   I just don't understand why it thinks that is a catastrophic error and halts.

Also, the initial splash screen doesn't appear, regardless of which F2 option I try, and it complains about 'lost hd irq." (although it seems to be identifying the right chipset, ide controller, hard drive, etc.)

It WILL boot with 'failsafe'.

CD image md5 matches, plus it works fine on my other machines.

Feather boots with no problem on the K7S5A, and the others too.

Hi,

I had that problem on my K7S5A Pro.

The trick is to disable APIC in the CPU section of the BIOS. In case your BIOS version does not include that feature you would have to go for a modified BIOS (i.e. unofficial). Two are well know : Cheepoman and HoneyX. I am happily running the HoneyX one for months now.

Good luck.

Try booting with the "dsl noapic" command

Hi, I'm using the K7S5A PRO board as well, and am having no problems at all booting .7.3. Go figure. I was thinking of going with the HoneyX bios though, because of the famous bios reset problem with this board.

Thanks. I suspected it might be related but hadn't gotten around to trying that yet. Does make things a bit dicy, though, if you forget to set it back.

I'm already running Honey-X
